Budget Breakdown
Katie L. Brown, Administrative Director
The Contemporary Education Complex of Kalapana will be a completely self sustainable learning center that offers not only K-8 curriculum, but will also provide classes to all ages that want to learn self sustainability. The campus will be powered by Solar and Wind, and each classroom will be equipped with VRote glasses, Smart White Boards, a wide variety of learning tools and games, and there will also be an observatory with a wi-fi capable telescope. Each building will be a geodesic dome structure resting on a raised platform, connected by bridges. Because this school emphasizes self sustainability, we are trying to keep projected costs to a minimum. Beyond teaching self-sustainability, anyone can make an appointment to come in and explore the subject of their choosing, and learn together with one of the learning guides on staff. The budget below is representative of components that will be purchased from various suppliers either retail or wholesalers, and we rounded up on every estimate to ensure we had plenty of cushion room. The Total Projected Cost is $50,000.

The decking will be a fairly costly aspect of building this school with 561 pieces of 12ft 2x12, 84 Pier Blocks, 84 8ft posts and 10 gallons of stain, all of which were priced from home depot. (As previously mentioned we can cut costs by purchasing lumber from HPM)
